Smoking Shelters
February 27, 2007 1:44:30 PM
A designated smoking shelter or canopy is the only option for pubs, restaurants and business premises wishing to offer customers or staff protection from the British weather, whilst complying with the 'smoke free' provisions of the Health Act 2006.
From the 2nd April 2007 in Wales, and 1st July 2007 in England, smoking in the workplace is prohibited without exception. This includes all internal spaces and includes doorways, porches or any other entrance/exit from a building or office.
Smoking is only allowed in designated areas that by definition are not wholly or substantially enclosed (have a roof and walls whether temporary or permanent and doorways or apertures less than half the area of the enclosing wall).
The definition encompasses almost every building, including barns, open-fronted stores and even vehicle loading bays.
